Tuberous Breasts

Indications

Tuberous breasts are the result of abnormal growth, size and shape of breast during adolescence due to congenital skin inelasticity around the aerola. Their first description was in 1976 (Rees-Aston). Depending on the degree of hypoplasia, 3 forms are distinguished. The existence of a circular fibrous ring at the base of the breast impedes both its horizontal and vertical growth and results in its tubular configuration. The nipple-aerola complex may be larger than the breast size, with the submammary line being at a higher level.

Surgical technique

The surgical correction is usually done by inserting silicone implants through a periareolar or submammary incision. The procedure is combined with radial realeasing incisions under through the glandular tissue. Occasionally, the periaerolar area should be reduced and in less cases repositioned higher to achieve symmetry in the two repaired breasts. These suggest surgical incisions, which may in some cases resemble those of a breast mastopexy.

Type of anesthesia

The procedure is performed with general anesthesia. After a discussion with the anesthesiologist there is also the possibility of sedation in combination with local anesthesia.

Duration of intervention

Breast correction takes about 1-2 hours.

Stay at the clinic

It usually takes one day to stay in the clinic, although in many cases the patient may leave the evening of the same day after consultation with their plastic surgeon Dr Achilleas Chantes.

Postoperative period/h2>

After surgery your breasts may be a little swollen and tense (your skin needs to be adjusted to the new size and shape). These symptoms, as well as the discomfort that you are feeling, will soon subside. The sutures we use are absorbable, so they dissolve within 3-4 weeks after surgery.

Back to daily activities

We recommend that our patients wait 1 week before returning to their professional activities. During the first days after breast correction patients should rest. Do not hesitate to get help with household chores (even the use of vacuum cleaners should be avoided during the first week). We advise our patients to lift only light objects and avoid lifting heavy objects and limit themselves to light exercise only during the first month. After a breast correction it is more comfortable to sleep in a supine position. If you enjoy sunbathing and even topless, you should apply a sunscreen with a protective index of 50, because the quality of the scars is negatively affected by sun exposure. To give new breasts support and to keep swelling to a minimum it is useful to wear a sports bra for the first 3 months (without a bra). You can start the bath normally after 1 week, but you should avoid soaking until the crusts disappear from your incisions. Finally you can start exercising in 1-2 months.

Results

The results of the operation are very satisfactory. Although 100% symmetry cannot be achieved the patient remains completely satisfied with the new image of her breasts!
